Faith. Hope. Wisdom. In Greek mythology, the gods used a messenger to communicate with mortals. The messenger, a goddess with golden wings, would travel to earth on a rainbow and wherever her foot touched the earth, colourful flowers would grow. This goddess was 'Iris' and so the flowers that appeared bore her name.
I love the exploration of flower meanings and have much about the different flowers I create. Although only a few petals, the creation of this flower is intricate with her painterly 'standards' and 'falls'. The fluffy caterpillar like beard that emanates along the falls of the flower from the center. A pure joy when she comes together.
The Bearded Iris flower is handcrafted from Italian crepe paper and coloured with various techniques to achieve lifelike qualities.
